God’s Will Is Not Like Siri

Updated: Nov 7, 2019

How many times have we looked towards God for tangible, individualized counsel for life’s big decisions? How many times do we expect Him to answer our prayers through a feeling we get in prayer, a well-timed Bible verse that speaks to the situations we're in, or even by making one of the choices that we're facing at the moment disappear completely? While it's true that as Christians, we should be actively and constantly looking towards God's wisdom for His guidance, the expectation that we can sometimes have for God to reveal every decision for us is unsustainable.

This article by The Gospel Coalition breaks down our assumptions and beliefs that, like Siri or a similar type of navigational system, God will call out turn-by-turn directions along the way. What if, instead of making the correct decision between Point A and Point B, God simply invites us to choose? What if He's not interested in the destination, but in who He's shaping, and how He's shaping us along the way?

Since God's will of decree means that he sovereignly ordains all things, he controls the goings-on of this world. Nothing can hinder His plans for us, and that also means that we can stop being afraid of wandering off the paths that He's laid for us. As the article writes, all we need to do is love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. That's our true north.
