Whether we'd like to admit it or not, most of us have been culprits of gossip. Gossip can be fun and addictive. Proverbs 18:8 even compares the words of gossip to “delicious morsels", a tasty treat that promises delight to those who indulge. People love to hear gossip and they love to share it. Some of us love the entertainment from snacking on other people's lives. Some of us feel good and proud when we know some insider info that no one else knows about. Gossip can seem fun, harmless and may be hard to resist - yet it's absolutely deadly. Gossip is delicious but deadly.
Do you like gossip? Do we experience gossip in our friendship circles? Are we bearers of bad news? What is our heart motive behind it? Gossip may be tempting, but God provides a way through the promises and hope of the gospel. This is the good news. As you trust in God's grace and rely on him, you do not have to give in to gossip - because there is a gospel that truly saves.
