Graduates - Where To, From Now?

Updated: Jan 27, 2022

University is full of fun and ambitions. Many of our university lives are marked with being lost in our freshman years, studying for mid-terms in the library or pulling all-nighters, going in and out of tutorials and lectures, playing board games in our dorms and having late night dim-sums or McDonalds. But what comes next?

What awaits us in this next stage of life? Will I be able to find a job? What do I even want to do for my career? Do we even know where we'd be in 1 year or 5 years time? Will we live successful lives? Perhaps, these are only some of the many questions we've been wrestling through as we wrap up our final semesters of school and graduate. We may not know the answer to many of these questions like where we'll be or what our plan is - but we can ask ourselves some of the important questions.

Have a read through this article and let it ask your heart: do I live for earthly success as my primary goal in life or will I live out Christ's commission - his call for us to focus on the kingdom of God? Will my life be marked on the world's hall of fame with earthly success and treasure, or will my life be marked as a faithful follower of Jesus - fixing my heart and eyes on Him in the ups and downs of life, secure in my identity as a child of God and an inheritor of his eternal kingdom.

There's a big world ahead of me. Will I live for God's glory and surrender my life for the sake of the gospel? I often like to think of it like this: "God, I place all of my plans in an open hand, all of my desires, surrendering and lifting them up to you, knowing you're in full control. Would your will be done. You do what you want, whether that means to give or to take away, and will my life bring honor and glory to your name, will I learn to rejoice in every circumstance and will I be faithful to you - each step of the way."
